This is a little piece of swinging mathematics as inspired by Ornette Coleman. It recalls the joyous, folksy Coleman melodies, as well as its typical twists and turns. The bass part, for the majority of the tune, implies a different time signature altogether, acting as a larger clockwork mechanism in sync with a smaller one. “Diversion” is called such as it is intended (at least in the first few listens) to obscure and divert where the listener’s attention should be, rhythmically and melodically taking radical detours.
