This is a lilting country waltz meant to have sardonic undertones. The story is set in the back of a bar or dance hall somewhere in a small town in Texas, where a group of men are planning to assassinate tyrannical governor James Valstedt. The piece mocks his so-called contributions to the state in a falsely sweet manner, as well as outright condemns him towards the end of the melody. To herald their plan, they have ominously spray-painted “All Hail” on the face of one of Valstedt’s re-election poster, intended to be seen by the public, as well as the authorities, after it is too late.
